The Northwest Missouri State Bearcat football team opened up fall camp over the weekend in preparation of the 2019 season.

This season begins the third year as head coach for Rich Wright, and the first year he has a returning starting quarterback.

Braden Wright was named the starting quarterback last year as a redshirt freshman. Coach Wright said he's looking forward to seeing what Braden Wright can accomplish as a sophomore.

"Oh my gosh, I sleep a lot better at night than I did last year, I can tell you that. Just having Braden back, comfortable with our system, having better cohesion with our receivers and what they can do, he's really stepped up in the last 365 days as far as his maturation and understanding what we want and how we want it. He spent a lot of time in the video room learning defenses. It's a different level. You go from high school to college football, it's a lot different and there's a lot more to know, so we're excited."

Braden Wright helped lead the Bearcats to the second round of the NCAA Division 2 playoffs last year.

The Bearcats open up the 2019 season on the road on Thursday night, September 5 when they travel to St. Joseph to face the Missouri Western Griffons. Again this year, you can follow all the action of Bearcat Football on the flagship station of the Bearcat Radio Network, KXCV 90.5, KRNW 88.9.
